Solutions · virtual marathon

A corporate virtual marathon everyone can finish.

Steps become distance, so the people who would never enter a real race are the ones who cross the line. Walking gets them there.

The problem
A parking-lot 5K was never going to include everyone. The runners sign up, everyone else watches, and participation is decided before it starts.
In one line
A virtual marathon turns everyday steps into race distance, so a full marathon is something the whole workforce chips away at over weeks, on foot, at their own pace, with no GPS run and no wearable required.
Two formats

One finish line, two ways to run it.

Most companies start with the step-based race everyone can join, and add a GPS event for the runners.

Self-serve

E-Marathon

Steps become distance on the leaderboard. Build it yourself from the dashboard.

  • 1,000 steps counts as 1 km, by default
  • Ranks on distance from steps, no GPS, no timing
  • No wearable required, walking counts
  • Live from Challenges, Create, E-Marathon
Set up with your account manager

GPS Marathon Event

A real GPS-tracked event for the runners, in distance tiers, run through the app.

  • Tiers of 5K, 10K, half (21.1 km) and full (42.2 km)
  • Ranks by time per distance, so pace decides the podium
  • Tracked by the app's GPS workout, on iOS and Android
  • Configured for you, not from the self-serve dashboard
Real distances, gamified

The same distances a real marathon is measured in.

Employees earn a running-distance badge at each milestone, calculated automatically. The full ladder mirrors the GPS event's tiers.

For HR and program managers

Publish it from the dashboard, then let it run.

1

Set the distance and dates

Pick the target distance and window, set the steps-to-distance ratio, and choose the audience.

2

Enrolled, not recruited

Matching employees are enrolled by rule. There is nothing for them to sign up for.

3

One event, every time zone

Each participant gets a full local day, so a global event closes fairly everywhere.

4

Finishes recognize themselves

Distance badges and certificates issue automatically as people cross each milestone.

The GPS Marathon Event is configured with your account manager. The step-based E-Marathon is self-serve.

Fair and private

A public leaderboard does not mean public health data.

The board shows distance and rank, nothing clinical. Employees can hide from the individual leaderboard and still cross the finish line. Reporting is aggregate only, hosted in your chosen region, and HIPAA-guideline aligned.

Trusted by 100+ organizations.

What is a corporate virtual marathon?−
A corporate virtual marathon is a distance event employees complete over a set period wherever they are, by turning their everyday steps into race distance. In Vantage Fit the self-serve E-Marathon counts 1,000 steps as 1 km by default, so walking gets people to the finish without a GPS run.
Do employees have to run, or use GPS?+
No. The step-based E-Marathon needs only steps from the phone, so walking counts and no wearable is required. A separate GPS Marathon Event exists for runners who want a timed, tracked race, and it is set up with your account manager.
How is distance counted?+
In the E-Marathon, steps convert to distance at a default of 1,000 steps per kilometre, which you can adjust. The GPS Marathon Event instead ranks by time per distance, so the fastest pace wins.
Does everyone need a wearable?+
No. Steps sync from the employee's phone. Wearables are optional and only add accuracy.
Can we run a real, timed marathon event too?+
Yes. The GPS Marathon Event offers 5K, 10K, half and full marathon tiers, tracked through the app's GPS workout. It is configured with your account manager rather than from the self-serve dashboard.
Is it fair for people who are not runners?+
That is the point. Distance comes from ordinary steps, badges reward reaching each milestone rather than speed, and anyone can opt out of the individual leaderboard while still finishing.
How long should the window be?+
Long enough that a walker can reach the target. Published Vantage Fit walkathons of this shape have run two weeks at POSOCO and 30 days at Landmark Group. A full 42.2 km at walking pace wants several weeks.
Do we have a marathon result we can quote?+
Not a marathon-specific one. The closest published Vantage Fit results are step-based walkathons: 97 percent participation at POSOCO over two weeks, and 5,000+ participants across six teams at Landmark Group.
