# Team Challenge solution page brief

## Page mandate

- **Solution:** Team Challenge
- **Live URL context:** https://www.vantagefit.io/team-challenges/
- **Primary audience:** US enterprise HR, Benefits, Wellbeing and People leaders
- **Secondary audience:** Program managers who will build teams, run the challenge and report results
- **Single page job:** Show that a team challenge can turn individual wellness effort into shared follow-through without creating unfair scoring or more roster work for HR.

## Product truth and strategic takeaways

### 1. A team challenge is a participation model, not a sixth challenge format

Teams sit inside supported challenges. HR can use a format that fits the intended behavior, then add the team layer. This page therefore does not present “Team Challenge” as another format card. It explains what changes when a challenge becomes team-based: formation, average scoring, team standings, captain or admin control and team-linked reporting.

### 2. Average scoring is the strongest fairness story

Team score is the average of member scores, not the sum. A large roster cannot win on headcount alone, and every person’s follow-through affects the result. This is the page’s central idea and the visual signature in the hero.

### 3. HR does not have to build every team by hand

Admins can create and edit teams, add or move members and bulk-create teams from CSV or Google Sheets. Where employee-created teams are enabled for the company, a captain can name a team, add an image and slogan and invite colleagues. Admins retain oversight of employee-created teams.

### 4. Competition has a privacy release valve

Employees can hide themselves from individual leaderboard rankings and still participate, earn points and contribute to the team average. That addresses a real inclusion objection without weakening the team model.

### 5. HR gets an operating surface, not only a leaderboard

The active-challenge workflow includes participant and team management, score, step and team leaderboard views, push notifications and CSV export. The final export can include team name alongside participant, department, score, rank and step data.

### 6. This program has real, approved proof

Tata Motors’ Step Up & Elevate program is directly relevant. The published case study reports 70% employee engagement, 43 participating teams and 7,600+ average daily steps per person. A compact proof band earns its place here. No other customer or benchmark is added.

## What the legacy page under-sells

- It treats teams mostly as generic competition instead of explaining the average-score model.
- It implies admin-managed team composition is the typical answer but misses captain-created teams, invitations and admin oversight.
- It does not explain scalable team operations through CSV or Google Sheets bulk creation.
- It misses the individual leaderboard opt-out that still preserves team contribution and points.
- It does not show the product’s weekly and overall leaderboard views, score breakdowns, notifications or team-linked CSV export.
- It presents broad activity ideas but does not explain that Custom challenges can combine auto-tracked activity, logged habits and content tasks across weekly themes.

## Information architecture

1. **Hero:** “Every person counts. So should every score.” Product-real team leaderboard and a visible average-score calculation.
2. **Why teams work:** Three concise reasons: fair by design, flexible formation and privacy without sitting out.
3. **Formation model:** Admin-led and captain-led paths shown side by side, with one clear governance story.
4. **Program flexibility:** A team layer across supported challenge experiences, including Custom multi-activity programs.
5. **HR control:** Build teams, monitor standings, send a nudge and export the final record.
6. **Customer proof:** Tata Motors, kept to three approved program results.
7. **FAQ:** Team scoring, team creation, privacy, format fit and reporting.
8. **Closer:** Book a demo and see pricing.

This flow is intentionally leaner than the Steps reference. Team Challenge does not need a format explorer or data-integrity section. Its two specific objections are formation effort and scoring fairness, so those receive the visual weight.

## Design direction

### Tokens

- **Vantage ink:** `#29294c`
- **Participation coral:** `#f15162`
- **Team mint:** `#41d8b4`
- **Quiet canvas:** `#f8f8f9`
- **Paper:** `#ffffff`
- **Enterprise dark:** `#1d2228`

The palette is taken from `styles/enterprise.css`. Coral carries actions and individual effort. Mint marks shared progress and positive team states.

### Type

- **Display:** Poppins, used for large headings and the score statement. This follows the consolidated Steps page.
- **Body:** Noto Sans, inherited from the enterprise stylesheet.
- **Utility:** system monospace for small score labels and calculation details only.

### Layout and signature

The page alternates broad editorial copy with compact product surfaces. The signature is the **average-score ribbon** in the hero: four real-looking member score tiles feed one team average. It makes the fairness mechanism understandable before the buyer reaches the explanatory section.

Initial idea: an orbital illustration of colleagues around a team badge. Self-critique: that could belong to any collaboration product and would not prove how Vantage Fit works. Revision: use a product-real mobile team leaderboard plus the average-score ribbon. The memorable element now encodes the exact team-scoring rule.

Motion is limited to the score ribbon and small hero cards settling into place. It is removed when the visitor requests reduced motion.

### Why teams work

**Eyebrow:** Shared follow-through

**H2:** Turn individual effort into a reason to come back

**Fair by design**
Team standings use the average member score, so headcount alone does not decide the winner.

**Form teams your way**
Prebuild teams for a structured rollout or let captains invite coworkers when employee team creation is enabled.

**Private without sitting out**
Employees can hide from individual rankings while their activity still supports the team and earns points.

### Formation model

**Eyebrow:** Team formation

**H2:** Set the roster once. Let the team take it from there.

**Admin-led teams**
Best for departments, locations and planned rivalries.

- Create teams in the dashboard
- Assign or move members
- Bulk-create from CSV or Google Sheets
- Keep oversight of every team

**Captain-led teams**
Best for voluntary programs and peer ownership.

- Captain chooses a name, image and slogan
- Invite colleagues in the app
- Employees accept or decline
- Admin can still edit membership

**Governance note:** Employee team creation is enabled at the company level. Your Vantage Fit account manager can confirm the setup for your program.

### Program flexibility

**Eyebrow:** More ways to contribute

**H2:** One team model. More than one kind of wellness.

**Body:** Build teams into a supported challenge experience, from a consistent movement habit to a multi-week program with different tasks and themes.

**Auto-tracked movement**
Steps, distance and active calories can update from a phone or connected wearable.

**Logged habits**
Water, yoga, meditation, mood and other activities give more people a meaningful way to contribute.

**Custom weekly themes**
Combine tasks, targets, content and points in a Custom multi-week challenge.

**Scoring callout:** For team challenges, consistency is visible. A few inactive members lower the average, so teammates have a reason to bring one another back in.

### HR control

**Eyebrow:** Control for HR

**H2:** Keep the competition moving without keeping a shadow spreadsheet

**1. Build the field**
Create teams, bulk-add members and set the maximum team size.

**2. Read the standings**
Switch between score, step and team leaderboards with weekly and overall views.

**3. Nudge the challenge**
Send a push notification from the active challenge when participation needs a lift.

**4. Close with a record**
Export the final leaderboard with team, participant, department, score, rank and step data.

**Dashboard labels:**

- Manage challenge
- Team standings
- Send notification
- Export CSV
- Team
- Members
- Average score
- Active this week
- Illustrative data

### Customer proof

**Eyebrow:** Team challenge in practice

**H2:** Tata Motors made wellness a team-owned habit

**Body:** The Step Up & Elevate program used 43 teams across plants and offices, team leaderboards and a mix of steps, weight logging and other wellness activities over nearly six months.

- **70%** Employee engagement
- **43** Teams participated
- **7,600+** Average daily steps per person

### FAQ

**H2:** Questions before you form the teams

**Are team scores totals or averages?**
Team score is the average of member scores, not the sum. That keeps a larger roster from winning on headcount alone and makes each member’s contribution matter.

**Can employees create their own teams?**
Yes, when employee team creation is enabled for your company. A captain can create a team and invite colleagues. HR can also pre-create teams, bulk-upload them and manage membership from the dashboard.

**Can someone participate without appearing on the leaderboard?**
Yes. An employee can opt out of individual leaderboard visibility and continue participating, earning points and contributing to the team average.

**Which challenge formats work with teams?**
Use a supported team format that fits the behavior you want to build. Custom, Streak and Journey experiences can support team configuration. Race is a pure individual steps leaderboard. We will confirm the best fit for your company setup during the demo.

**What can HR report after the challenge?**
HR can export leaderboard data to CSV, including participant, department, score, rank, step and team fields where applicable. The live dashboard also provides score, step and team views.

### Closer

**Eyebrow:** Build the first team

**H2:** See how a shared score can change who shows up

## Assumptions and guardrails

- The page uses Custom, Streak and Journey as examples of team-capable experiences based on the consolidated Steps product decision. It does not imply that every format or every tenant configuration exposes team setup.
- Employee-created teams are described as company-level configuration, not a universal default.
- All numbers inside UI mockups are explicitly labeled illustrative.
- The Tata Motors figures are the only marketing performance claims on the page.
- No clinical, savings, ROI, compliance or competitor claims are made.
- Primary and secondary CTA URLs follow the current enterprise homepage pattern.
